New California Hang Tags and Warning Labels

Polaris added new hang tags and warning labels to vehicles shipped to California, as well as parts and accessories, in August 2018. These warnings also are found in Owner’s Manuals and on parts and accessories ordered online.

These new tags and labels are the result of changes to California’s Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, commonly known as Proposition 65. Proposition 65, which was enacted through a ballot initiative in 1986, requires businesses to provide special warnings when selling products that may expose persons to chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm.

In August 2016, the Office of Administrative Law approved changes for an improved Prop 65 warning label, effective after a two-year phase-in period. The goals of the new warning labels include making the warnings more meaningful and useful for the public, reducing “over-warning,” and providing clear guidelines on how and where to provide warnings.

Starting in August 2018, consumers may see the following warnings on their Polaris products.
